    Default Holley 1920 Carb Color

I'm about to send a carb in to be rebuilt. There are remnants of OD paint on it. Was it originally painted or bare cast metal?

From the factory, carb would have been bare metal.

Some engines, along with it's accessories might have received olive green paint during an overhaul.

original carb was anodized. kind of brownish-gold color. Maybe someone else knows the proper term for the color.

Kwai is on to it. I think it was sometimes called aluminum chromate, Alodine or Iridite. Anodizing is an electrolysis process and is very hard where as the Alodine does't increase the dimension of the metal.

In any event, I can tell you for a fact that the Holley 1920 Carburetor that came on the truck was a gold color. That color often bleeds away over the years.

I realize this is a four barrel carburetor but this is the color, click on the O'Reilly link below:

I have a NOS carb on my truck, that I keep wax on it to preserve the finish

I will take a few pictures today.

Like they say on the internet "this thread is worthless without pictures"

This is a military surplus NOS carb. I think it's box was dated 1971.

I'll bet Eastwood has a finish to duplicate that.
