If you keep a Hi-Lift in there, remember that if a tire goes flat, you need enough room to slide that think out of the tool box. I learned that lesson the hard way when a tire went flat while I was parked in the parking lot at work. I had to move the truck back 15 feet to get the darn jack out.

Worked out for the best because the bead got loosened up that way. Kind of hard on the tire though.

That is true...and a very good point as well.

I carry mine there but I put it in the bed for trails...

That is the reason both my hi-lifts are on the top of the bed rails. I just had visions of needing to slide that hi-lift out in a tight trail wedged between two large rocks or something.

When I had my recent flat, I'd have been standing in a lane of traffic to extract the jack from the under bed box too had it been on the drivers side.

Mine is now on the bed rail too.

This is the best picture here at work that shows it.

That was the day I put the USMC markings on the truck. 16 DEC 06 to be exact. The next morning, Pistolnut, his son, Agengr, Colton and myself set out to flat tow one of the two M35's I had just bought. I had no clue if the M715 would be able to stay on the road flat towing the M35. So, I put both my spare 230 engines in the bed for ballast. My avator picture was taken about 24 hours after the above picture after the 40 some odd mile flat tow home. It just happens that the M35 in my avator is the truck my students and I just today finished redoing all the brakes on and my drive home from work today will be its first test drive since I have owned it. Guess I need to update the avator soon.
