I can't answer your question but I have one for you.

In the picture it looks like the gears are not lined up properly. Are the gears aligned on the same plane and at the same angle?

correct, shaft was not bolted up at time of pic, I had to fix mounting brackets, then all lined up ok. chain runs straight.
I do know its missing lever to free spool it, and its missing parts of drum brake system.

The original winch is the Braden LU-4. Your winch looks like it was fabbed onto your frame as all the brackets are different from originals, too.

After reading some in the Maint. section, I figured the same. Stock looks like shaft goes straight into winch. Mine has chain drive after pto shaft. My whole front bumper has been cut off and welded back on. Also old style snow plow brackets.

Sounds familiar. I found out after I got my truck that it had a deuce and a half winch on it. Also had the brackets welded to the frame. I have been able to cut off the welds from most of it. But I still have a lot to do. Sure makes it easier if everything is left stock. Parts fit, books match what you have etc. Good luck with your truck, it looks like a great place to start.

Not too worried if its all stock... stock parts seem to be too hard to find anyway. As long as it works good... And truck is for sale, thanks !

Actually, I don't think that parts are all that hard to find. What is hard to find is the cash to buy them! Sorry, just had to say that. Just fooling around...
