buddy of mine mentioned car wash soap - you could also use dish soap to break up the gunk, but you'd have to rinse really well.

Why not just buy a new one?

Small pieces of chain are the accepted method of cleaning fuel tanks and works well in these also. Pour in some solvent of some type to break up any gummed up goo and varnish and then toss in a few pieces of chain. I like to use cross links for tire chains. They are about the right size and weight to do a good job. For leaks and whatnot, you can seal them either with a fuel resistant paint or a fuel tank sealer.

Cause i can't buy NEW NATO cans here in CA. So im buying surplus. I just want to make sure they're cleaned out properly before filling them with fuel - that ill be pouring in my rig later.

I have heard old timers mention the use of a handful of nails and shaking them around for a while....

You could buy new ones and have them sent to someone outside the PRK and then they can send them to you.

Shipping is a grip for 7 of them, being tossed around two states. Ill pass.
Ill just buy used ones for $14 bucks and clean them.
