    Default ballast resister 24v distributor

do some stock distributor have resister in coil . remove stock coil and don't see ballast resister (as per part break down). measured no room for resister. measured ohms resistance of coil primary circuit and secondery circuit. I'm way off manuel spec.?? possiable resister is build in ??

There are 2 types of coils used stock.

Type 1 has a built in, internal, ballast resistor
Type 2 uses the external ballast resistor under the coil and it rougly a little bigger than a quarter and thicker than one with a wire in and a wire out.

Tpe 2 usually has printed on the side something to tell you the type...not always but usually...like this:

Use with External Ballast Resistor Only

I haven't seen a new coil (or NOS) that had the ballast resistor separate. As Jon said, the resistor is a separate piece that sits below the coil in the ignitor housing. All the 24V replacement coils available today have the resistor built-in.

The ballast resistor I removed from one of my trucks was the same diameter as the coil and about 1/4" thick.

So the book spec on ohms reading for primary circuit is it for internal ballast or external. Is the spec revised for internal ballast???
