Thread: Shocks

    Default Shocks

Here's Procomp ES series per their page:

    Pickup - Gladiator (J-Series) 4WD

    ________________________ES1000_______ES3000_______ _ES9000
    _______________________front/rear_____front/rear_______front/rear
    63 - 73 4WD Gladiator 0" ___121500 ______321500 _________921500
    _______________2"-3"_____124509_______324509__________924509

Are people putting stock J truck shocks on? I'm thinking about the ES1000 shocks. I didn't know if people were putting on 0" or the 2-3" shocks- gonz

Sorry, I tried to line it up better.

procomp shocks don't last long. But that's ok with the m715 since you will probably never notice when they stop working.

Second that.......My 40 year old shocks may or may not work, but as stiff as the ride is, I can't tell......

I think you want the 2-3" version. Compare the shock specs (compressed and extended lengths) to the Rancho's most people use. I don't have the numbers handy and I am too lazy to search.

I just bought Napa shocks, my new suspension and ride is smooooth. I think it is mostly because of the slip plate I applied to each leaf of each leaf spring pack. I can get you part number for the Napa shocks if you wish, let me know.

Why not just get some NOS M715 shocks? They run abou 35.00

NOS shocks are simply oil filled...aftermarket have gas charging...

You can use stock type shocks...you do need to look at the compressed and extended lengths to get the right ones though...standard measures that is in the specs book the retailer should have.

I usually run oil shocks. I searched through the old and the old old zone posts for shock sizes. Willy down in TX complained about running gas shocks- they apparently broke off the shock perchs twice. I believe he was running some big loads when they went. My utility bed weighs a crazy amount- my over all weight is around 9500.
So for the extra little money, I was thinking of the pro comps instead of stock.

Kwai- have you had problems with pro comp? I've had mine on my wrangler (the 1000's) for about 8 years and no issues- gonz

Sounds like the length was wrong and when bottomed out the shock was acting like the rubber bump stop on the frame to stop the axel.

That would likely be the culprit, as I did the same thing once on a Jeep that had an incorrect lift specification indicated.
