Dead cylinder
I'm have a 1967 M715 with the stock 230 tornado engine. It has a miss in it. I pulled the plugs and did a compression check, #5 had nothing. Pulled the valve cover to make sure a valve wasn't stuck but everything looked good. The oils not milky like it has a blown gasket and not using water. Any ideas before I tear into this thing.

Unfortunately the only thing left is to pull the head and look.
Could still be a head gasket if it blew to the side, and missed the cooling ports.

put a little oil in the cylinder and rerun the compression test to see if it comes up.

Thanks. I'll try the oil to see if the rings are stuck but even so would think I'd see something on the gauge. This things been a learning curve for sure!

Just want to say good luck, and he that nothing major shows.
Are you hoping to keep the truck mostly stock? Parts can be difficult to find, but not impossible.

Before pulling the head, make darn sure that a valve is not too tight in that cylinder. The rockers should be able to move when the piston is on Top Dead Center. Whilst I have never had a head off (hope I never do!) that will entail a lot of aligning of timing marks etc., not a lot of fun. Pulling the head would be the absolute last thing I would do.
Make sure also that your compression gauge is working properly. You might want to remove all plugs (if you have not already) and do a compression test on all six cylinders. Make sure the throttle is wide open to get an accurate reading.
Let's hope for an easy fix.

Pulled all 6 plugs and started at #1 cylinder. Every cylinder was #150 which is right on mark with the specs except #5. When I pulled the plugs all were a little dark but #5 was oil soaked. Pulled the valve cover to make sure the rockers weren't keeping the valves slightly open and checked clearance, intake was slightly tight at .004 and exhaust was loose at .009. Didn't get a chance to work on it much yesterday but plan to hook an adapter up to the air compressor, pressure it up to see if I can tell where it's leaking at. Not wanting to pull the head unless I just have to. Not looking at keeping it stock, want a driver. I'd really like to drive it on the Hot Rod power tour next year. I think that would be cool! Thanks for all the help with this thing, the Online Maintenance Manuals are worth the price of admission alone! I'll let you know what I find.
